The following tutorial outlines how to edit the logo with Adobe Fireworks CS4. Fireworks is required for logo editing. (CS3 can be used with our sources).

Editing in Adobe Fireworks CS4

Step 1

Open the iridium-logo-source.png file in Adobe Fireworks.

Focus on the right column, titled Layers. Select the Web layers directory and click the eye icon to the left of the logo slice (the green object). This will make the slice invisible so you can edit the file.

Step 2

Double click on the logo text. Now you can edit the text of logo to your choosing.

 

Now, double click on the slogan text. Now you can edit the text of slogan to your choosing.

 

Step 3

Reactivate the Slice in the Web Layers column, this will place a green rectangle over the logo image. Change the size of the slice to match the new size if applicable.

Step 4

Now you will want to export the logo. Right click on the image slice and select Exported Selected Slices... from the contextual menu. Proceed to export it to your computer for uploading.

Step 5

If you are new to Fireworks, you may be wondering why it appears that there is only one style variation in the source. This is not the case as we take advantage of the Frame features of Fireworks. You need to simply switch frames to see all the other style variation sources.

There are a few ways to change frames and we will show 2 methods that you can use.

In the right column where you find the Layers toolbar including the Web Layers area, you should see another tab/toolbar named Frames. Just left click on the title Frames to enter the frames area. Then you can click on either of the frames which are named to show which style variant is on that particular frame.

The second method is the most easiest and simplistic. At the bottom of the Fireworks canvas is a row of buttons, arrows just as previous and next. Select the arrows to switch between frames.

Uploading the changed files

Step 1

Once you have successfully edited then exported your new logo, you will need to upload it to your server. This process is best done via a FTP client such as Filezilla

1. Open your FTP client on your local computer.
2. Login to your web server where Iridium is installed.
3. Navigate to the /templates/rt_iridium_j15/images/*style*/logo directory.
4. Upload logo.png (and any other logo related images) to this directory (You may need to browse on the local panel in the FTP client to find where you have exported your logo).
5. Clear your browser cache before viewing such as using the keyboard commands on Windows, Ctrl+F5.

The template is accompanied by a series of menu systems which are outlined below:-

Menu Types

Please click the links in the list below to load the various menu styles.

• Fusion Menu - Fusion Menu, an advanced dropdown based CSS menu. It supports both mootools powered transition and animation enhancements for its dropdown.
• SplitMenu - A static menu system that displays submenu items outside of the main horizontal menu (typically in the side columns but invariably underneath the menu bar).
• Toolbar - An option in the template to disable the inbuilt menu systems and replace it with the toolbar module position. This is not demoed.
• No Menu Bar - This options disables / collapses the entire inbuilt menu system and the toolbar module position.

The menu type used is set via template configuration at Extensions → Template Manager → rt_iridium_j15 → Menu Type. Select your desired menu type from the dropdown and save. Also, the various mootools effects of Fusion Menu can also be configured in the template manager.

Fusion Menu

Fusion is javascript-based dropdown menu system, with extensively functionality. The menu itself is built on the rewritten core of the latest revision of RokNavMenu, the core application behind all RocketTheme menus.

Fusion offers a series of new abilities ranging from Menu Icons, Subtext support and much greater controls over the Multiple Column ability for dropdowns.

Template Configuration

You can configure Fusion Menu at Extensions → Template Manager → rt_iridium_j15 and you will find all parameters under the Menu Configuration Options heading. A preview of these options can be seen in the adjacent screenshot.

Menu Icons

Fusion has support for individual menu icons for its dropdown menu items. These images are loaded from the /templates/rt_iridium_j15/images/menus/ directory where you will find 31 images by default.

To setup a Menu Icon, go to Menu → Mainmenu → Select/Create a Menu Item. Locate the Menu Image field in Parameters (Template theme - iridium-fusion) and select an image from the dropdown.

Subtext

Subtext is the term used to describe the secondary text placed underneath the menu title.

To add your own Subtext, go to Menu → Mainmenu → Select/Create a Menu Item. Locate the Subtext field in Parameters (Template theme - iridium-fusion) and insert your desired text.

Multiple Dropdown Columns

Fusion has the facility for dynamic column control for its dropdown. You can choose between single (1) or double (2) column modes for children of every single menu item via configuration.

To control the number of columns of each menu item, go to Menu → Mainmenu → Select/Create a Menu Item. Locate the Columns of Children field in Parameters (Template theme - iridium-fusion) and choose either 1 or 2.

Dynamic Child Direction

Typically, a dropdown menu column will extend beyond the width of the browser window if you have enough child levels. However, with Fusion, the menu detects the width of the browser and will change the direction of menu pullouts so all menu items are visible without the need to scroll.

How to create Child / Sublevel menu items in Joomla

In order for menu dropdowns in Moomenu and Suckerfish, and the dropline / side column items of Splitmenu to appear, you need to setup parent and child menu items.

• Login into the Joomla administrator
• Go to Menu → Menu Name
• Select a menu item that you wish to be in the dropdown
• Locate the Parent Item form
• Select the menu item that you wish for your item to appear under
• Save

Perform the same task for all menu items that you wish to be child items.

You can control the style options of the Iridium template from the Joomla administrator template manager. Here you can choose from one of the Preset Style combinations, or create your own Custom preset all from the administrator.

The options are as follows, and the areas that they control are indicative in their name:-

• Preset Style: Style1 to Style6, Custom
• Body Style: Style 1 to Style 6
• Background Style: Full, Medium & Simple Styling
• Font Family: Iridium, Bebas, Continuum, Geneva, Optima, Helvetica, Trebuchet, Lucida, Georgia, Palatino
• Primary Link Colour: Hex colour input field & colour wheel

Creating your own Preset Styles

• Login to the Joomla Administrator
• Go to Extensions → Template Manager → rt_iridium_j15
• Set Preset Style to Custom
• Choose your desired style options
• Hit Custom Style in the top right button menu
• Copy the code from the Custom Style Output box.
• Go to /templates/rt_iridium_j15/styles.php
• Edit the code between array() with your copied code block
• Save and upload

What is RocketLauncher?

RocketLauncher is a Joomla installation package that installs Joomla as the demo. The launcher installs the sample data, which has been customised to match the demo, and the template, extensions and images are already built in. The launcher is the best method to replicate the demo with ease.

Due to the complexity of our demos, it is much easier to see it in action then it is to read in written tutorials and / or viewing screenshots. Therefore, the process of using the template on your Joomla site is much faster, simpler and makes for a better experience.

Version

We use the latest Joomla version available at the time for our launchers and when Joomla updates, we proceed to update all the launchers so they are up to date for all new downloads. Please go to the Joomla Downloads repository to see what version the RocketLauncher is using.

Instructions

Step 1 - Upload the files

• Download the Iridium RocketLauncher Package (Joomla_RT_Iridium_j15.zip) from the Iridium template downloads section
• Unzip the zip packaged onto your computer to reveal the Joomla_RT_Iridium_j15 folder
• Upload this to your site using your FTP client

Note, on some servers, you can upload the zip and extract the package directly onto your server using cPanel or SSH access. For more details on this, please contact your hosting provider.

Step 2 - Installation

• Direct your browser to the installation such as www.yoursite.com/Joomla_RT_Iridium_j15 or to whatever directory your uploaded to
• Choose a Language for your site then click next
• Review the Pre-Installation Check page then click next
• Review the License page then click next
• Insert your Database information: host name, mysql username and mysql password then click next
• Insert your main configuration information: site name, admin password and email address
• Click Install Sample Data then click next
• Delete the /installation directory on your server
